quest thread: part I
Perhaps the time is nigh.

The twisting bark, the infiltrating shade is familiar -- comforting, disarming -- and she must cup her hand to shield her gaze from Arien's brightening rays. She walks past Lalwen with a smile, a nod for Celeborn, winking at Nienor as her fingers find the edges of Ulmo's parchment and tracing the faint lines, she rips it down and rolls the paper in her hands.

Reality, once so stark and unforgiving, unfurls like a wave that breaks over them in silent sucession. Dry blades of grass dissolve into dunes, trees begin to shrink -- suddenly the leaves lengthen and undulate, seagrasses tickling the sky, the hushing sound of the sea; sparkling water manifests itself in her vision.

Profundity reigns in feet that want to explore the shore line, a desire to experience all as she catches her first glimpse of their ship (blue sails sway cool lovers in the breeze). She turns, looking for those around her.

"So. Here we are."

"Aurel" sways with sudden disorientation, has to steady himself with an outstretched hand. The sea is vast, and he is a little afraid.

He watches Luthien, who seems determined and confident. He remembers that she, too, had gone against the dictates of the Valar, when she convinced Namo to rescind his claim on Beren. With her leading, he suddenly feels hope for this quest.

He smiles at her, taking care to make his face bright and innocently eager.

First catch. Aurel's bright, wide-eyed innocence causes a crooked grin to form over the corners of her mouth. She wouldn't be fearful. Not right now.

"...any sailing experience?" Her wry voice is picked up by the wind that coasts imperceptibly about them, listening and stealing conversation.

He smiles back before looking down. The waves are lapping far too close to his feet for comfort. He knows lakes and streams, but there has always been something about the sea that repelled him. Fear of drowning?

"Not in so many words, I'm afraid. But I think we'll all learn soon. How long will the first leg of the journey take?"

She raises a shoulder, taking an idle step toward the waves that lap around her toes. "I don't know, really. I suppose we are to man the boat and go west."

He steals an uncertain glance at "Malbeth", then falls into step beside her. He half expects the water to start bubbling around his feet as he steps in, but his disguise holds.

He still keeps back. He's not eager to be the first person on board the boat. Ulmo has eyes everywhere.

Melkor lagged behind the exploring duo, furtively glancing at them from a safe distance away while he did his best to be interested in the new surroundings.

Well. That was exciting, 'Malbeth' did have to admit. However, the mode of transportation left his stomach a little upset.

He eyed the new landscape cautiously. The sea was something he had little dealings with. That unfamiliarity, combined with some discomfort with the idea of other Powers controlling certain aspects of their trip made him nervous.
